SYDNEY TO COFFS HARBOUR RIDE UPDATE

Post by MPN-MATE Admin »

Evening all... :D

Just a quick Update to assure everyone that this RIDE is all booked in from APRIL 10-17, 2021

I am currently in the throws of desperately trying to attract ever more media attention from a host of Radio stations, and local rags that might wish to include our story, much like the one attached below, as we continue our epic Seven (7) Days and Nights, while Riding FIVE (5) consecutive 100km per day journey riding up the NSW coastline. Unfortunately, I am not the most photogenic cyclist, hence Narcissism is not something I have to concern myself with... I am almost 62 yo, and most of the time I feel great... 8-)

Anyways, more updates as the countdown continues... Just seven (7) more weeks to go... Scary huh? :o

Best wishes all...

Steve

***QUICK UPDATE***

This current inundation of inclement weather might well be about to threaten my Sydney to Coffs Harbour RIDE (?)

I hope I am not about to be stopped yet again, however, we do still have a few weeks left before any type of rethink might be required...

Fingers crossed of course... And a clearance by the weather gods would be most useful... 8-)

Hey Steve,

You have certainly been hampered by problems when you have set up your rides recently. First Covid, then this deluge of rain. Do hope you manage to make it this time but sometimes these things are not meant to be!

Best wishes and keeping fingers crossed.

Hi and morning Katie... :D

We do still have a little time ahead of us before a FINAL decision needs to be made... At the present, and in my own mind, I will still be going ahead. However, I will be closely following all reports to learn whether or not the planned course will need to be altered in any way from the course selected etc... Hopefully, that will not be the case... but this is one huge deluge as you've said... (?)

Katie, I am ever persistent, and will never yield easily, besides... I believe that we make our own fates, and not they make us... 8-)

The thought of offering 50% of what we earn 'ON the RIDE' (which doesn't include Funds already raised), to be donated towards 'Flooded Communities' might be something I / we should also consider doing... However, media coverage then becomes essential to our success, and I am not sure we will be attracting much w/ all of this transpiring... Anyways, just a thought at present... :-)

Thanks Katie...

Stay safe & dry too want you...

Evening all... :D

Sorry my time on the boards these days has been somewhat restricted of late... But I have been rather preoccupied...

Here is the latest Update for the Sydney to Coffs Harbour "Cycling For A Cure" MPN RIDE, that will commence as of this Saturday, April 10.

Initially, we will set out from Castle Hill Showground, as originally planned by say 9AM, in time to meet up with Stage1 Riders who are planning on tackling a Mangrove Mountain Climb with me for the Stage1 Ride, (it's a really tough climb...) :<[

This event will now commence from the Wiseman's Ferry location that was hit very hard by the recent floods, and just our starting there might help a little with visitors slowly returning, as the big mop up continues no doubt...

Here below is a copy of some local Press from the Hills Independent News Paper for April 2021

To all of you who have supported us in anyway to see this event take place, please accept our gratitude, and thank many thanks for your generous donations.

For anyone wishing to contribute, please follow this Link to our "Giving To MPNs Page", thank you all so much:

Stay safe & well...

Best wishes

Steve

Good evening Allan... 8-)

Thank you Allan for your well wishes for fine weather, and naturally I am also hopeful that the elements will remain kind to me during this endeavour...

Thank you also for your generous donation Allan. I did send you a text earlier to thank you once I was advised of your contribution...

Stay safe & well, and keep an eye out for a few pics as we progress along our way north, (providing the gremlins do not foil my attempts etc...) ;-)

Best wishes buddy...

Hi Steve,
Well as promised I am watching & supporting you from the UK.
It’s approaching 5pm with you and I am very much hopeful you have arrived in Somersby ?

I know you have had warm weather on the ride, as ever I am thinking of you’re Hydration & Electrolytes....

Keep on top of this to replenish your bodies needs, essential for you & all riders, hopefully you still have companions along the route.

Thank you Steven for doing this wonderful gesture to highlight the plight of us MPNERS and those who are yet to be diagnosed hopefully will get better treatment and understanding of just how difficult it can be to be diagnosed and then navigate ones way on the individual’s journey with an MPN..

You are raising much needed awareness my dearest friend, I will talk with Peter NZ shortly & establish if he is aware of exactly where you are right now !

My Support is Always with You, watched this forum grow from a glimmer in you’re thinking to what it is today..

Love to You & Mum As Always

Hey Steve,
So sorry I missed the beginning of your ride yesterday. I did try to phone you to wish you good luck,
Very much hoped to find out how to trace your daily progression but not at all sure how to do this. Perhaps someone would be kind enough to let me know. Not very technical at my age I am afraid.

All the best for today’s ride and my greatest admiration goes to you for this wonderful effort for MPN.

Best as always,
Katie

Evening Steve,
Day 2 Stockton Lakes to Myall Beach, just a tad shorter ride thus I am hopeful you will be able to settle for the night earlier than last night...

We are thinking of you on this long awaited journey...

I suddenly have opportunity to speak for those of us blighted by the true ramifications of having MPN’s especially having
‘All the Flavours ‘ etc...

Our perspective of exactly how much is known about MPN’s by the Physicians we see etc..

I will be contradicting that sentence to,
“How Little is Known by Physicians “
I will indeed be referencing your endeavours to bring both awareness and much needed funding for research!

The Opportunity has literally just been proffered, I will tell you much more later..
It simply feels appropriate that this comes along as you are Cycling 🚴‍♂️ to bring change about..
As Sarah said it would be easier to pick you up on Satellite Imagery if only you were at Sea.
You would be very happy at sea too, so I will simply trust in the 👍 that you have arrived at your destination for lay over..

Rest Well tonight you so Deserve it..
Take Care tomorrow, tad longer ride, but you can do it, that much I do know...
Hydration, Hydration, Hydration 🚴‍♂️

As Always
Maria 😘

Leg Three (3)
Foster — Port Macquarie
It’s 07.30 with you and I am confident you are off or ready for the off.
You prefer early starts, especially if hot weather..

No matter what, Take Care of Yourself on this leg..
I will drop by tonight to see how you are.

As Always Stay Safe Steven,
Hugs to You & Mum 🚴‍♂️👍😘

Hey Steve,
Hope all is going well with your mammoth ride.
Shame we can’t leave a message of encouragement on your phone!
Thinking about you and willing you on during all those difficult hills.

Stay safe.

Good luck on your last day of your Sydney to Coffs ride, Steve.
We haven’t heard much in the last few days but have been thinking about you and willing you on.
Do post as soon as you have arrived. Would love to have been able to see what you were doing each day,
Love,
Katie
