Pegasys Availability

Post by Rosie »

Yesterday I read a release from Pharma regarding Pegasys availability.
Previously it was understood that the shortage would last until mid 2025.
Now they are saying that this is not the case but it will be mid 2026 before supplies will be available.
I spoke to Dr Forsyth and she had not seen the press release and was going to follow up.
I guess it will mean eking out what medication we all have.

Happy Christmas everyone.

Re: Pegasys Availability – UPDATES!

Morning Rosie & thank you so much for POSTING,

This may prove to be very important news...

I have started a discussion with the TGA, in the first instance, about the remote possibility of the TGA & the PBS bringing "Besremi" into Australia as an equivalent sort of alternative for all of those who are currently on Pegasys'... (?)

Very early in those talks but naturally I will endeavour to keep all informed as things progress or otherwise etc...

Best wishes to you & yours for the Festive Season Rosie...

Besremi would be a great alternative. Hopefully the government wheels can turn quicker than they often do. It might also be worth contacting Greg Hunt (former health minister). He's very responsive and seems to still be involved somehow in the addition of new drugs to PBS.

Here's some background on the shortage. You need to indicate that you are a health professional in order to see the page.

Nice information there Pete... 8-)

Thanks again for Posting that 'Link'.

Yes, it will be a long slow & drawn out project, of that I am sure... Globally, we might still yet bare witness to even more economic constraints, (Trump factor on Tariffs)...

Our current government is trying desperately to reign in their budgetary speculations, while the alternative have promised to make even deeper cuts into the medicines & PBS drug acquisition availability in recent talks...

Hence, with fiscal 'Deficits' now looming large, and our commodities to China in a protracted downturn...

My attempt to achieve having "Besremi" included to be used in Australia & added to the PBS, may prove nigh impossible, I fear...

Nevertheless, the effort will be made all the same...

Best

Steve
